As a child, I didn’t have the typical boogie man or monster living in my closet. No, I had a vampire that lived under my bed. The supernatural has always interested me, especially vampires. They fascinated and terrified me at the same time. I can’t help but think I inherited that from my Grandmother. I can remember eating grapes and cheese and watching Dark Shadows with her. Sometimes we would stay up late and watch scary movies like Salem’s Lot or The Night of The Living Dead. I would have to promise not tell my parents because they didn’t really want me watching those kinds of movies. It was our little secret.
When I was a teenager, I discovered romance. I was in heaven. I loved the happily ever afters, the idea of there being a soul mate, and that love can make everything possible. I totally believed in love at first sight and still do. I met my husband when I was 15. From the moment I laid eyes on him, I knew he was the one and we’ve been together ever since. We’ve been married for over 21 years now and going strong. It was just a matter of time before I tried my hand at writing romance.
I was an 80’s girl, so I cut my teeth on the bodice ripper type romance novels. What can I say? I loved them. Of course, I was a Luke and Laura fan too. I would read my books and listen to Air Supply, Journey, Bon Jovi, Madonna, Tears for Fears, and Duran Duran to name a few. Ah, and the big hair. *Sigh*
Historicals were and are by far my favorite romance genre, especially the ones set in Scotland. I love to escape into another time, another world. Calgon…take me away. Add in the paranormal aspect and life just couldn’t get any better. Okay, add in a million dollars and then life couldn’t possibly get any better. Give me a story with a tall, dark, alpha male, Scottish vampire in a kilt and you have a reader for life. Please, no wimpy heroes or WAY out there kick arse heroines.
My two favorite authors of all times are Bertrice Small and Johanna Lindsay. Now, they know how to create a hero. I’ve devoured every book they’ve written—at least twice. I’m sorry to say I have yet to meet either one in person.
I have wonderful support from my friends and family, making me an extremely lucky writer. My husband is my backbone. He’s always there and is the first to jump up and down with me when I receive good news. And of course, he’s there when the not so good news comes down too. My mother-in-law is the first in line to buy my book. My dad, who happens to be a romance reader, can’t wait until I write him a western romance. And even though my stepmother is not a big romance fan, she’s always excited for me. And sometimes my kids actually let me write in peace.
Oh, and I can’t forget the LIWs! They’re always there to offer advice, support, and to answer questions—even the crazy one with the feather boa, the hanky waving Mouseketeer, and the real life vampire who never sleeps. With support like this, how could I go wrong?
I’m a fourth generation Texan, living in central Texas with my husband and two teenagers—a daughter and a son, a golden retriever, a chocolate lab mix, and two cats. My daughter is a gymnast and spends 5 hours a day in the gym. I home school her in the mornings. She also shoots shotgun through 4-H. My son is an avid shooter of just about everything from bows to shotguns in 4-H. That would account for our politically incorrect arsenal in our bedroom.
More FYI you didn’t want to read but can’t resist.
